FAQs
How often do I need to use the PLG?
RPM recommends you start using the Platen and Screen Level Gauge daily. This will allow you to determine your schedule. In many cases, this will be reduced to once a week and maybe less often, depending on how usually the platens fall out of alignment.
What if my platens cannot be adjusted?
Most likely, this means the platens are warped, which is why it is recommended that they be replaced.
How soon should I expect a return on investment from my PLG purchase?
You should note all quality issues, e.g., registration, color consistency, and overall print quality. If you want to monitor your ROI closely, take a baseline production speed and check it over time. Increasing quality and speed will only mean you receive your ROI sooner rather than later.
Why should I be concerned about QC?
The Platen and Screen Level Gauge helps develop a quality program that is trainable by all print employees. It helps promote respect for the company and what is expected of employees regarding quality and production speed. Once quality programs are implemented, they become part of the daily work routine and print process. The PLG comes with a QC program for you to review, revise and implement right away.
Do you offer additional on-site training?
Yes, any time. There is an additional fee based on the time needed to complete live training based on our hourly consulting fee. We recommend you devote an hour for all printers to join one training session. All other written or video training is free and comes with the purchase of the PLG.
What comes with the PLG?
The PLG, SLG, batteries, Go-No-Go Gauge, Height Gauge, the PLG Quality Plan, charger and cord. All items can also be purchased separately if needed.
Are there any hints and tips to keep my platens in shape?
Yes. This may sound silly but do not stand, lean, or put unnecessary weight on the platens. Avoid treating platens as a place to stack heavy piles of shirts. This will keep them from having to be adjusted as often. It is part of the PLG Quality Program. Always place the PLG in a secure, convenient location that will protect it and allow you to use it quickly, to avoid unnecessary downtime when setting up or switching out jobs.
Can I just purchase a maintenance plan with RPM instead of buying the PLG?
Of course. The PLG is a “must-have” tool in the RPM toolbox. We can level your platens using the PLG and SLG as often as you need. But remember, we are trying to save you money by offering a quality diagnostic tool with an overall solution for each shop to have on hand whenever needed.
